Since its founding in 1928, Aarhus University has grown to become a leading public university with international impact and reach across the entire research spectrum. It is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top universities. Aarhus University has around 38,000 students, 10,700 employees, 1,800 PhD-students and close to 1,000 postdoctoral scholars. Internationalisation is at the heart of its mission and activities. For example, 10 % of the main student body is from abroad, as well as 25% of salaried research staff. The Department of Biomedicine at the Faculty of Health has more than 80 research groups and a total of >400 employees. The Faculty of Health Graduate School hosts approximately 1400 PhD students, and its medical school annually accepts 600 new students. In his research group, Jacob Giehm Mikkelsen focuses on gene editing for treatment of genetic disease with focus on development of delivery technologies for genome editing. His group has a special interest in gene editing in hematopoietic stem cells including next-generation technologies like base and prime editing. The group has also established a pipeline for genome-wide screens using CRISPR/Cas technology and has years of experience with virus-based gene delivery.
