Clemens Aigner

Clemens Aigner, MD, MBA, FETCS is Professor of Thoracic Surgery and Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna/Vienna University Hospital. The clinic is one of the largest lung transplant centers worldwide and has implemented clinical EVLP in 2010. Additionally, a newly established isolated lung perfusion program supplements the ex-vivo research activities. Research topics in lung transplantation focus on extracorporeal support, advanced surgical techniques, organ preservation and transplant immunology. Focus areas of the department furthermore include functional thoracic surgery, thoracic surgical oncology and laryngotracheal surgery. 

The translational labs of the department align with the clinical activities and dedicate their research interests in transplant immunology, applied immunology and thoracic oncology. Prof. Aigner has led several prospective clnical trials, authored more than 250 PubMed indexed papers, won multiple national and international awards and is active in several scientific societies.
