Omniscope Wins AI Discovery Award: Strengthening LifeLUNG’s Mission to Decode Transplant Immunology
We are delighted to celebrate an exciting achievement from our LifeLUNG partner, Omniscope, which has been awarded the Nebius AI Discovery Award in Genomics. This recognition highlights Omniscope’s pioneering work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, genomics, and immunology. As Omniscope states: “Decoding the immune system is very hard and has not yet been achieved. However, once fully decoded and once we can see what the immune system sees, we have the keys to un

🫁 LifeLUNG Webinar Series – Our First Webinar!
On 18 June, we hosted the first webinar of the LifeLUNG Doctoral Network, bringing together our doctoral candidates and researchers for an inspiring discussion on Ex Vivo Gene Delivery in Transplantation. We were delighted to welcome Irina Filz von Reiterdank, who shared her pioneering work on gene delivery during organ perfusion and offered valuable insights from her unique perspective as both a transplant surgeon and researcher. The presentation sparked engaging discussions

🎤 Great presentation from our LifeLUNG supervisors! REGMED XB
We are proud to see Rik Gijsbers and Marianne Carlon (KU Leuven) deliver a keynote at the RegMed XB 4th Annual Conference in Utrecht, showcasing LifeLUNG's vision and progress. Their presentation covered the full spectrum, from cutting-edge gene therapy vectors and living lung disease models to a clear-eyed roadmap for clinical translation. It was a masterclass in how to build not just a therapy, but an entire ecosystem around it. Thank you both for representing LifeLUNG so

🫁 A lung. Alive. Outside the body.
🫁 A lung. Alive. Outside the body. This is made possible by Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP), a technology that keeps donor lungs warm, ventilated, and functioning outside the body before transplantation. Using EVLP, clinicians can assess, preserve, and even treat donor lungs before they are transplanted into a patient. At LifeLUNG, we're taking that technology further. In our ongoing research, we are developing EVLP into a more advanced treatment platform, with two specific go

Donation for research
🫁 Support the KUL research on lung transplantation in animal models Before we can repair damaged human donor lungs, we need to perfect the technique in the lab. That's exactly what we are working on, to give more transplant patients a second chance. Please consider donating to the Second Breath project at KU Leuven. 🔗 https://giving.kuleuven.be/projects/second-breath-project 📘 Transfer to BE45 7340 1941 7789 with ref +++400/0028/09403+++ Tax-deductible in Belgium. LifeLUNG Behind the scenes
Last week, our LifeLUNG doctoral candidates traded their pipettes and flow hoods for cameras and microphones 🎬 We spent a full day filming a movie about the LifeLUNG project, but this was about so much more than just a video. What they learned: 🎥 How to communicate complex science to a non-academic audience 🎥 The art of simplifying without losing the science 🎥 How to work as a real team – giving constructive feedback, listening, and adapting ✨ What we felt: It was a truly
