Doctoral candidates Kick-off meeting: a powerful start.

The LifeLUNG Doctoral Candidates Kick‑off Meeting has concluded, marking an inspiring beginning to the programme.

From the outset, the doctoral candidates impressed us with their strong scientific presentations and preliminary data, demonstrating expertise, preparation, and genuine ownership of their projects. Their commitment surpassed our expectations.

On the second day, the emphasis was on connection and collaboration. The candidates met lung transplant patients and effectively communicated their research in clear, accessible language with empathy and clarity. A team-building city game in Leuven further strengthened network bonds.

We concluded with focused training on scientific integrity and data management. Special thanks to Tom Gallagher and Willeke de Haan for their engaging sessions, which provided a strong foundation for responsible research.

We express our sincere gratitude to the doctoral candidates, supervisors, and the patients who joined us through LifeLUNG Connect.

We move forward motivated and hopeful that together we will advance lung transplantation by addressing rejection and inflammation, and by contributing to an expanded donor lung pool.
