Professor Édouard Sage leads the Department of Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation at Hôpital Foch. He is recognized for his innovative contributions to thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, where his dual roles as a surgeon and researcher converge. He has been instrumental in establishing an experimental research laboratory in thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, in collaboration with INRAe.
His research focuses on ex vivo lung perfusion using innovative lung transplant models. This interdisciplinary, translational research aims to increase donor availability and improve graft preservation and assessment prior to transplantation.
Drawing on his experience in Toronto, he has implemented modern donor selection protocols specifically using EVLP including a donation-after-circulatory-death lung transplant program. These efforts support the long-term excellence of transplant outcomes and have made his institution the European leader in clinical EVLP.
At the helm of the Department of Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation at Hôpital Foch, Professor Sage is committed to expanding the department’s leadership and innovation capabilities, while fostering high-quality training and applied research opportunities for the next generation of surgeons.
